Dynamic risk management of common but potentially hazardous play behaviours

Wednesday October 9, 2019

Working with playing children requires adults to engage with children's desire for flexibility and uncertainty, excitement and exhilaration, and with that comes the need to engage in risk management. This short post provides an introduction to the information sheet we co-wrote with Si Bazley and Dave Bullough for Play Wales and provides a link to that resource.

We have done a lot of work on risk management in children’s play, supporting the development of policy and practice for Local Authority’s, large and medium sized visitor attractions and childcare and playwork organisations. In this information sheet co-authored by our very own Mike Barclay and Simon Bazley and Dave Bullough, in 2016, titled ‘Dynamic risk management of common but potentially hazardous play behaviours’ the subject of risk assessment is considered in respect of commonly occurring play behaviours using an ABC model to support those practicing dynamic risk-benefit assessments.
